Where to buy things in Eindhoven: household stuff, medicine, sports gear, furniture and second-hand

Which chain to walk into for a kettle, paracetamol, a bike lock, a desk or a drill, where the kringloop shops are, and the sites that show this week's offers.

Key facts

  • Cheap household basics: Action has six Eindhoven shops. Painkillers, plasters and vitamins come from the drugstores (drogist) Kruidvat and Etos, not a pharmacy.
  • IKEA Eindhoven is at Ekkersrijt 4089 in Son, on the northern edge of the city: bus 406 from Eindhoven Centraal, open daily from 10:00.
  • Second-hand is normal here: Het Goed (Meerenakkerweg 2), Dorcas and De Doorstroom in town, Marktplaats and Vinted online.
  • Every chain publishes a weekly folder; Folderz collects them in one place and Supermarktscanner compares live supermarket prices.

What to do

  1. Kitchen tools, cleaning stuff, stationery, hangers, bike lights and basic tools. Nearest branches: Hurksestraat 44, Insulindelaan 118, Keizer Karel V Singel 57.

  2. Kruidvat and Etos sell paracetamol, ibuprofen, hay fever tablets and plasters off the shelf. Kruidvat is at Rechtestraat 22 in the centre and Winkelcentrum Woensel.

  3. Furnish a room from Het Goed (Meerenakkerweg 2, open daily) or a Marktplaats listing in your postcode, then fill the gaps at IKEA.

  4. IKEA Eindhoven sits at Meubelplein Ekkersrijt in Son, 20 minutes by bus from Eindhoven Centraal. Flat packs do not fit on a bike, so plan a car, a taxi or delivery.

  5. Decathlon is in the centre at Piazza 52, open until 18:30 on weekdays and 21:00 on Friday. Cheap own-brand kit, bike parts and a repair desk.

  6. Open Folderz or Reclamefolder, type the shop name and see this week's offers. Action, Kruidvat, HEMA and the DIY chains all run weekly deals.

Household basics and drugstores

  • Action: discount chain, over 6,000 products from kitchen to garden. Six Eindhoven shops, including Hurksestraat 44 and Insulindelaan 118.
  • Kruidvat: the big drugstore chain for medicine, toiletries and photo prints. Rechtestraat 22, Tongelresestraat 221, Winkelcentrum Woensel.
  • Etos: Albert Heijn's drugstore, same idea as Kruidvat with more own-brand care. Centre, station and Strijpsestraat 137.
  • HEMA: department store for bedding, towels, underwear and kitchen basics. 18 Septemberplein 3, Woenselse Markt 46, Winkelcentrum Woensel 92.
  • Blokker: pans and small appliances. Winkelcentrum Woensel 38-A; the chain restarted in 2025, so check the store finder.

Furniture, sports and DIY

IKEA Eindhoven is at Ekkersrijt 4089, 5692 DB Son, in the furniture park (Meubelplein Ekkersrijt) just north of the city by the A50. Hours: Monday to Thursday 10:00 to 20:00, Friday 10:00 to 21:00, Saturday 10:00 to 19:00, Sunday 10:00 to 18:00. Bus 406 runs from Eindhoven Centraal; self-scan tills take cards and cash.

  • Decathlon: Piazza 52 in the centre. Weekdays to 18:30 (Monday from 11:00), Friday to 21:00, Sunday 12:00 to 18:00. Larger shop in Best.
  • Praxis: DIY (bouwmarkt) at Tenierslaan 2 and Hurksestraat 27. Weekdays 09:00 to 21:00, Saturday to 18:00, Sunday 10:00 to 17:00.
  • Gamma: Kanaaldijk Noord 15a near the centre and Herentalsweg 11 in Woensel. Weekdays 09:00 to 21:00, Sunday 12:00 to 17:00.
  • Hornbach: the biggest DIY store nearby, Zandstraat 15 in Best by the A2. Weekdays 07:00 to 21:00, Sunday 10:00 to 17:00. Car needed.
  • Ask your landlord what you may drill before buying fixings; most Dutch rentals come without lamps or curtain rails.

Second-hand: kringloop shops and apps

A kringloopwinkel is a second-hand shop that sells donated furniture, crockery, bikes, books and clothes for a few euros. Het Goed at Meerenakkerweg 2 (Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 18:00, Sunday 12:00 to 17:00) is the largest; Dorcas at Brussellaan 2a and De Doorstroom at Joris Minnestraat 4 are smaller.

  • Marktplaats: the Dutch classifieds site for a desk or a bike. Filter by distance, pay on collection; read our bike guide first.
  • Vinted: app for second-hand clothes, shoes and accessories, sent to a parcel point near you. De Doorstroom is a Vinted parcel point.
  • Student moving-out season (June to August) floods Marktplaats and the TU/e and Fontys housing groups with cheap furniture.

Electronics, clothes and markets

  • MediaMarkt: electronics, with shops in the centre and at Ekkersrijt next to IKEA. Coolblue: online first, shop at Aalsterweg 91.
  • Clothes: Primark, Zara and the other chains cluster around the Piazza, Demer and Rechtestraat. HEMA does cheap socks and underwear.
  • Woenselse Markt: Saturday 10:00 to 17:00. Fruit and vegetables, fabric, phone cases, socks and household odds and ends.
  • Centre market: Tuesday 09:00 to 16:00 on 18 Septemberplein, mainly textiles, fish, fruit and nuts.

Find this week's discounts

  • Folderz: all current shop folders (reclamefolders) in one place, searchable by shop, brand or product, with an app. Running since 2008.
  • Reclamefolder: the other folder aggregator, also an app, with the weekly offers of supermarkets, drugstores, Action and the DIY chains.
  • Folders.nl: a third option with the same idea, all new folders and promotions of the week.
  • Supermarktscanner: independent price comparison for Albert Heijn, Jumbo, Dirk, Aldi and Plus, with price history and weekly deals.
  • Tweakers Pricewatch: the Dutch price comparison for electronics, from laptops to washing machines, across all the big web shops.

Our take

Action first for anything small and boring, Het Goed before IKEA for furniture, and Hornbach over Praxis or Gamma if you have a car and a long list. Decathlon's own brands are the best value for sports kit and bike parts in town.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Going to a pharmacy (apotheek) for paracetamol: the drogist is cheaper and needs no prescription.
  • Cycling to IKEA with no plan for getting a flat pack home.
  • Buying new what every kringloop shop sells for 5 euros: plates, pans, lamps and desk chairs.
  • Paying the shelf price at Action, Kruidvat or HEMA without checking the weekly folder.
